Julie von Haefen

Julie von Haefen has represented the 36th District in the North Carolina House of Representatives since January 1, 2019. She serves on the Appropriations, Appropriations General Government, Education K-12, Local Government, and Military/Veterans Affairs committees in the House. 

 

Rep. von Haefen was a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) leader at the school, county and state level. She served as the President of the Wake County PTA Council and on the Executive Board for five years. Rep. von Haefen also served on the North Carolina PTA Board of Directors from 2017-2019 and was the State Advocacy Chair and Federal Legislative Chair for NCPTA.  Rep. von Haefen is a fierce advocate for North Carolina’s public schools and is still a proud member of the PTA at the schools her children attend in Wake County.

In addition to her work with PTA, Rep. von Haefen is a certified Guardian ad Litem in Wake County and is a longtime Meals on Wheels volunteer. She also works as a substitute teacher with Wake County Public Schools and has substituted at many schools in District 36.

Rep. von Haefen is licensed to practice law in Ohio, Arizona and California. She received her bachelor’s degree from Ohio University and her law degree from Case Western Reserve University. Rep. von Haefen practiced law for over 10 years in a variety of areas including criminal law, medical malpractice defense, municipal law and education law.

Rep. von Haefen and her husband, Dr. Roger von Haefen, a professor at NC State University, moved to Apex and District 36 in 2005. They have three children, two of whom are students in the Wake County Public School System and one who attends UNC - Chapel Hill. In her spare time, Rep, von Haefen enjoys hiking, kayaking and chasing waterfalls in the beautiful High Country of North Carolina, attending live music concerts, watching Broadway shows at DPAC, traveling, cheering on the North Carolina State Wolfpack, watching her hometown NFL team- the Cincinnati Bengals, and listening to Taylor Swift.
